The 4-day Mount Kenya climb via the Naro Moru ascent and Sirimon descent combines the fastest, steepest route up the mountain with a scenic, gradual return.
Standard 4-Day Itinerary
- Day 1: Nairobi to Meteorological Station (3,050m)
Drive from Nairobi to Naro Moru town and head to the park gate (2,400m). Trek 9 to 10 km (3–4 hours) through the montane forest and bamboo zone to the Met Station for dinner and overnight. - Day 2: Met Station to Mackinders Camp (4,200m) or Shipton’s Camp
Trek uphill past the vertical bog—a famous, marshy high-altitude stretch—into the Teleki Valley, arriving at Mackinders Camp for acclimatization, dinner, and rest. - Day 3: Mackinders Camp to Point Lenana (4,985m) and Descend
Start a pre-dawn push (around 2:00 AM or 3:00 AM) to reach Point Lenana, Mount Kenya’s premier trekking peak, in time for the sunrise. After summiting, descend toward the Sirimon route camps (such as Old Moses Camp) or lower. [1, 2] - Day 4: Old Moses Camp to Sirimon Gate and Nairobi
Complete the final morning descent to the Sirimon Park Gate, meet your transport vehicle, and drive back to Nairobi. [1, 2]
Key Route Facts
- Ascent: Naro Moru is the steepest, most direct path to the summit, making it physically demanding but fast.
- Descent: Sirimon offers much gentler slopes, scenic moorlands, and Mackinder’s/Teleki valley views on the way out.
- Main Challenge: The vertical bog on the lower/middle sections of Naro Moru can be wet, muddy, and tough on footing.
